Having a record is no longer enough.

A recording used to be proof. Today, a few seconds of someone's voice is enough to make them say things they never said.

합성Anyone can make it

Voice cloning has become ordinary. In an age of synthesis, only the unsynthesized record can serve as ground for legitimacy.

Material made by people

AI grows well only on material people actually made. As machine-written text spreads, material that is certainly human becomes scarce.

Rules that ask for origin

The European Union's AI Act ↗ requires providers of general-purpose AI models to publish a summary of the content used to train them. How a record was obtained now matters as much as the record itself.

A judgment rendered without records is prejudice. So alongside keeping records, someone has to keep their history.

We receive records, keep them, and prove them.

Memory is not for sale. What can be sold is the work of making the record, keeping and proving it, and what grows from the original. Nodeone stands in the middle: keeping and proving.

01

Making the record

We listen to oral histories, scan manuscripts, and take everything in its original form, along with who spoke, when, and where.

02

Keeping and proving

The moment a file arrives, we take its fingerprint (a hash) and mark the time. For manuscripts and books, every page gets its own fingerprint, and the pages are bound into a single fingerprint for the volume. The speaker's signature is always part of the seal. We also log who opened what, and when.

We can keep the content sealed and still confirm that a record came from that person on that day and has not changed since, much like confirming that the seal on a box is unbroken.

A protocol, a store, and the apps above

Nodeone's work has three layers: a protocol anyone can read at the bottom, a store that keeps originals by that protocol above it, and the apps that use the store on top.

    1. layer 0 · HGP

      Hahoe Genesis Protocol (HGP)

The protocol for keeping and proving the first moment (genesis) of a human record. It began in Hahoe. Its principles, permissions, fingerprints, manifest format, and the history of every decision are public. The specification is public; there can be many implementations.

    2. layer 1 · arKive

      arKive

The specimen above (plate 1) is a volume held there. It holds deposited material, so only people with permission can enter.

    3. layer 2 · 앱Apps

      앱Apps

Several apps stand on the same store. Siltare, the oral autobiography service, is the first.

Lines we hold

Rights written only in a contract are not enough. They have to live inside the technology and structures that handle the record.

We do not sell the original.

Control stays with the speaker and their community. What we charge for is the work of making, keeping, and proving. Not selling the original is not a matter of virtue; it is how this work keeps its bargaining power.

Nodeone cannot open it alone.

We design the system so that even we, the keepers, cannot open a record without the speaker's permission.

We protect the right not to speak.

That is enough for today." "This part is for my family only." Those wishes are part of the record too. A right respected only when it pays cannot ask anyone to entrust us with a life.

We say first what we can and cannot prove.

We prove that a person said something and that the record has not changed since. We do not prove that what they said is true. Memory can be wrong.

We decide in advance what happens if we close.

If we struggle or change hands, the records do not follow us. How and when they are returned is set from the start.

Not a company that persuades.A company that records.

For institutions that use records

What museums, archives, research labs, and AI developers ask us first.

What do we receive?

Every original comes with its fingerprint and the time we received it, and every volume with a volume fingerprint. Every interpretation, such as a transcription, reading, or translation, records who made it, whether a person or a machine, and who confirmed it. Originals and interpretations are kept in separate layers, so correcting a reading never touches the original.

Which standards do you follow?

We do not invent formats. Pages and volumes are exported as IIIF Presentation 3 manifests that pass the official IIIF validator. Provenance follows the core of W3C PROV (who, with what, when), text follows TEI structure, and integrity follows an OCFL-style fixity inventory.

Can the material be used to train AI?

Only what the depositor has consented to for AI training, and only within the access scope the depositor set. Even then, only text a person has confirmed against the original goes out, and never the original scans. Records without consent stay out of training exports, and the reason they were left out is recorded.

What does Nodeone not prove?

We do not prove that what was said or written is true. We prove that a record came from that person on that day and has not changed since. Nor do we prove anything from before we received it, such as the state of a book before it was scanned.

Do you use a blockchain?

Not today. We plan to anchor one line a day, that day's combined fingerprint and its time, to a public timestamping service such as OpenTimestamps. No content, no names, and no individual fingerprints leave.

What happens to the records if Nodeone closes?

The records do not follow the company's fortunes. How and when they are returned is agreed on the day they are entrusted to us. Because everything is kept in standard formats from the start, the records remain readable wherever they move next.

Can we see it working?

You can recompute a volume fingerprint yourself in the specimen above. A walkthrough of arKive, including its reading view and correction history, is available on request.

Alignment as RecognitionAlignment as Recognition

Aligned language models diverge internally from run to run, even on the same prompt. The divergence appears only under stochastic decoding and converges to zero at temperature zero. We do not assume it is noise to suppress. We start by calibrating the instrument that measures it.

In 2026 we turned this instrument on our own results first. A finding that hidden states split into two clusters had replicated many times; we withdrew it once the same criterion called structureless data "two clusters" every time. We also stopped claiming that alignment increases internal divergence, once tokens were held fixed and the scale was normalized. Both withdrawals and the calibration procedure are set out in a forthcoming paper, and the code is public now.

From the start, our concern was the balance between the public and the private, and the structures of coordination that make it possible. We still believe that only coordination in which public and private are in harmony is legitimate.

In 2018, Nodeone was a node that verified transactions. Now it is becoming a node that verifies human records. The belief is the same; only what we build has changed.
